Course Description

The Work Safely at Heights course focuses on the training and assessment in skills to perform work with a harness at heights. This may include working on an elevated work platform, roof, structure or any area where a fall hazard exists.

Assessment

Our Work Safely at Heights course has written theory assessment includes multiple choice and short answer questions. Practical assessment requires correct completion of working at height practical exercises which include inspection of harnesses and gear, use of temporary anchor, work positioning and fall arrest systems and remote access rescue.

Safety Systems Pty Ltd recommends retraining every 3 years.

Who should complete Height Safety training?

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to work safely at heights in the resources and infrastructure industries and applied to those working in operational roles.

It is recommended that individuals complete this training if they perform harness based work such as working on an elevated work platform, roof, structure or any area where a fall hazard exists.

What is Harnessed Based work?

Harnessed-based work at height refers to any work tasks in which an individual uses webbing full body harness in order to secure and place themselves in a work position whereby they are attached to a rope, lanyard, self-retracting lifeline, or other safety device.

 

Does Height Safety training require refresher training? 

Yes, as recommended in the Australian Standard 1891 (Industrial fall arrest systems and devices), Height Safety training is required to be reassessed at appropriate intervals. The industry standard is every 3 years, however, can be completed more frequently if required.

 

At what height is fall protection required in Australia

In Australia, it is recommended that fall protection equipment be worn when completing work at a height that is 2 metres or greater. The type of fall protection equipment used will vary depending on type of work and the hazards present.

What is the minimum age to complete Height Safety Training?

To complete a Height Safety course at Safety Systems, the participants must be at least 15 years of age. If under the age of 18, we will require a permission form to be signed by a parent or guardian.

Do I need a White Card as well as Height Safety training to work onsite?

Yes, to work a construction site, you will need to complete Construction Induction training and have a White Card issued from WorkSafe. To book Construction Induction training, click here.

Do you offer online Height Safety training?

Due to the nature of the content covered in this training, we do not offer online training, with all courses being conducted face-to-face.
