Construction Induction (White Card)

The course content contains but is not limited to the following components.

• OHS Legislation, including the OHS Regulations 2017
• Construction hazards and common controls
• Managing hazards and risks
• Personal Protective Equipment PPE
• Safe Work Method Statements
• Communicating and reporting OHS hazards
• Emergency procedures

Written theory assessment includes multiple choice and short answer questions.

What is a Construction Induction/White Card?

OHS/WHS legislation within Australia requires anyone performing construction work to have successfully completed Construction Induction training.

In Victoria, this training must be completed with a WorkSafe approved RTO, in which the RTO will register your details with WorkSafe. WorkSafe will then issue the participant with a Construction Induction Card (commonly referred to as a White Card).

How do you get a Construction Induction card (White Card)?

In order to receive a White Card, you must complete the unit of competency CPCCWHS1001 – Prepare to work safely in the construction industry. 

What is Construction work?

According to the Victorian Occupational Health and Safety Regulations 2017, construction work is defined as, "Any work carried out in connection with the construction, alteration, conversion, fitting-out, commissioning, renovation, repair, maintenance, refurbishment, demolition, decommissioning or dismantling of a structure."

What is the minimum age to complete Construction Induction training?

 To complete a Construction Induction course at Safety Systems, the participants must be at least 15 years of age. If under the age of 18, we will require a permission form to be signed by a parent or guardian.

What is a Construction Induction Card Used for?

A construction induction card is used to verify that the person completing construction work as defined above is competent in the unit of competency CPCCWHS1001 – Prepare to work safely in the construction industry.

How long is the Construction Induction training course?

As outlined by WorkSafe Victoria, the Construction Induction training runs for a minimum of 6 hours.

Do you offer online Construction Induction training?

In line with WorkSafe Victoria Regulations, Safety Systems does not offer online Construction Induction Courses.

In Victoria, WorkSafe have mandated that all Construction Induction (white card) training be conducted face-to-face (unless approved by WorkSafe to conduct online training during the COVID-19 Pandemic).

If you complete Construction Induction training with an RTO that is not WorkSafe Approved, WorkSafe will not issue you a White Card.

Does a White Card have an expiry date?

There is no set expiry date for a White Card once issued. However it should be noted that regulation 349 of the Victorian Occupational Health and Safety Regulations 2017 states: “If a person who holds a construction induction card has not performed construction work during a consecutive period of 2 years, the construction induction card lapses and is no longer current at the end of that period of 2 years.”

How long does it take to receive a Construction Induction Card (White Card)?

Once you have successfully completed your Construction Induction training with Safety Systems, we will lodge an application with WorkSafe within 48 hours, your card should then be issued from WoskSafe within 7-14 business days.
